Upload a Story

Create U-Vision TV Stories

U-Vision, our campus digital signage channel, provides a convenient and highly visible opportunity to communicate relevant information, promote upcoming events, and highlight academic achievements to engage with the HKU campus community.

As of March 2023, U-Vision Online, the channel's online submission system, has merged into the university’s main website. Staff and students can submit content on behalf of their faculty/department to be broadcast on U-Vision's TV monitors across campuses by submitting a TV Story on this website. Posters and videos that meet the channel's technical specifications are accepted. 

If you have a published a Web Story regarding the same information, you can link to it within your TV Story. This allows viewers to read your Web story by scanning the QR code from the U-Vision TV displays.

You can view what's showing on U-Vision daily, by clicking on “U-Vision” from the footer, and clicking on “Watch TV” to view that day's playlist online.

Step 1 - Login

Login to HKU.HK by visiting https://www.hku.hk. Hover over the menu bar and click the “Upload a Story” button from the Quick Links. Then, sign in using your HKU Portal credentials. Once you have logged in successfully, you will be able to access the Dashboard page.

Step 2 - Create U-Vision TV Stories

Click “My Stories”. If you have previously created stories, you will find them on this page. To create a new U-Vision TV Story, click “Create TV Story”. 


You can also create stories for publishing on the website. Please visit here for the steps.
 

Remarks: Function included in your “Dashboard” depends on your user role.

Step 3 - Basic Information

Enter the title to be displayed on TV. Your Faculty/Department will be auto-filled for you based on your HKU Portal login. Also, choose your preferred broadcast date and time.

 

  • Title display on TV

    You can enter up to 60 characters. The title will be shown on the side panel of the U-Vision TV.

 

  • Faculty / Department

    Your Faculty/Department will be auto-filled for you based on your HKU Portal login.

 

  • Preferred broadcast date and time

    Select your preferred start and end date / time. You are advised to select the date duration as 1 month in maximum.

    Remarks: The default duration is 14 days. Selection of more than 30 calendar days is not allowed.

Step 4 - Content

Choose to upload a video or poster.

 

Your chosen content will be displayed in the below marked area.

You can upload a new video or use the previous uploaded video.

 

  • Acceptable video formats

    Click the "View Acceptable Formats" button and follow the requirements.

  • Step 1 - Upload your video: for uploading a new video

    Click the "Upload Video" button. Then, fill in the video title and upload your video file in the pop up window "Create Video". When the upload bar indicates 100%, your video file is successfully uploaded.

     

    After uploading the video file, click the "Start Rendering Video" button. The video ID will be auto-generated and pasted in the “Paste your Video ID” box.

     

    Remarks: The rendering time depends on the number of videos pending for rendering and the video file size.

 

  • Step 2 - Paste your "Video ID": for using an uploaded video

    Already uploaded a video for another story? Skip Step 1 and proceed to Step 2 "Paste your Video ID". You can type your video ID or search the video by inputting part of your video title, original video file name or video ID.

 

  • Edit Video Setting / Subtitle / Thumbnail

    Click the "Edit Video Setting / Subtitle / Thumbnail" button to edit the video setting, upload subtitle files and edit the thumbnail.

 

Poster

Other than video, you can choose to upload a poster. Click the "View Acceptable Formats" button and follow the requirements to upload your poster file.

Step 5 - Weblink & Promote Event

Weblink

You can link the content to a published HKU Story or input an URL. The weblink will be automatically converted into a QR code and displayed on the side panel of the U-Vision TV.

 

  • Link to a published HKU Story

    Already published a related HKU Story? Search by inputting the published story title or ID.

 

  • External link

    You can also input a related external link starting with "https://".

 

Promote Event

If you hope to promote an event, you can select this option and fill in the event location, start and end dates, and also time.

Step 6 - Save Setting

Please select to agree to the Terms of Use. Then select the action as "Save draft" or "Submit story". You can leave any remarks for your record when saving as a draft, or leave a message for the approver when submitting the story. When finished, click the "Confirm" button.

 

After completing all these steps, you are good to go! The story will be displayed on the U-Vision TVs across campuses after approval.

Remarks: It may take approximately 7 working days for our team to process and approve your submission. We will send you an email message when it has been approved for broadcast.
